I am part of an amazing group of professional portrait photographers from around the world that created a concept challenge group to stretch our creativity. Each month we work on creating a custom photograph that represents a unique theme, and November’s theme was The Snow Queen by Hans Christian Andersen – a story that I had never read before, but really enjoyed! It has so many different aspects – growing up, good vs evil, etc. If you haven’t read it, I definitely recommend it! I chose to photograph the Snow Queen herself because I found the Snow Queen and what she represents incredibly interesting – of course she is beautiful and powerful, but most importantly, incredibly influential. I didn’t see her as ‘evil’, per say, but without emotion or feeling, and quite lonely too. So she is meant to look lonely and almost miserable in my vision.
